Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is a $23 billion multinational conglomerate with interests in engineering, power, renewable energy and infrastructure. On Wednesday, the company reported a 15.5 percent year-on-year increase in net profit.
Larsen & Toubro said on Wednesday it had won a "major or large" contract worth INR 25 billion to INR 50 billion (about $300 million to $600 million) in India and the Middle East.
L&T said in a filing to the Indian stock exchange that its power transmission and distribution business has won an order to set up a 75 MW floating solar power plant on the reservoirs of the Damodar Valley Corporation in Jharkhand and West Bengal.
The company will also construct 21 kilometres of cable-stayed bridges across the Brahmaputra River in north-eastern India.
"The company has also won orders for substations and voltage conversions from hydrocarbon companies in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. An additional order has been secured in an ongoing 220 KV power supply project in the UAE," the company reported in its filing.
In Saudi Arabia, the conglomerate has won a contract to set up clean energy generation and power utilities for a luxury tourist destination in the Red Sea region.
In a separate order, L&T said it won a contract in December for the engineering, supply, construction, installation, testing and commissioning of a 400/132 kilovolts (kV) substation in the UAE.
In Kuwait, the company has been awarded substation and voltage conversion contracts by hydrocarbon companies.
