The system will help improve services to 31.5 lakh people in the city of Mumbai by providing advanced situational awareness and rapid response to any issues that may arise in the network.
India's first-of-its-kind Advanced Electricity Distribution Management System, which detects and rectifies power outages within a short time, has been launched in the country's financial capital Mumbai, Indian media reported on Tuesday.
The state-of-the-art system has been launched by Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd. The Network Operations Centre (NOC), which would help locate a power fault within seconds, has been set up in Powai, the report said.
The NOC will help to predict and prevent power outages so that remedial action can be taken quickly. It will also help to balance the flow of power across the network, reducing the amount of energy lost.
The system collects data from a network of sensors, which is then analysed in real time to identify and address problems before they become significant customer issues and complaints.
The new system will prove beneficial in the coming summer months when there are frequent power problems, which will be quickly resolved within 15-20 minutes instead of the current average of 34 minutes.
With this system in place, consumers will enjoy uninterrupted power supply for essential tasks and leisure, with fewer power cuts, shorter duration of outages and faster restoration times. The intelligent insights of the ADMS, quality power with consistent voltage and frequency will ensure seamless power supply, media reports.
