Shehbaz Sharif previously served as prime minister for 16 months between 2022 and 2023.
In a decisive move, Nawaz Sharif, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, has officially announced his brother Shehbaz Sharif as the prime ministerial candidate to lead the coalition government, as confirmed by party spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb's tweet.
The forthcoming government will comprise a coalition of several parties, including PML-N, Pakistan's Peoples Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam) [PML(Q)], Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).
Aurangzeb also revealed that Nawaz Sharif's daughter has been nominated for the post of Punjab Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, the opposition party Pakistan's Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, criticized the coalition, denouncing them as "mandate thieves".
"I warn against the misadventure of forming a government with stolen votes.Such daylight robbery will not only be a disrespect to the citizens but will also push the country's economy further into a downward spiral," PTI released a statement on Tuesday quoting Khan.
