Vayu Shakti is a triennial exercise in which the armed forces show off their defensive and offensive capabilities first. The exercises first started in 1954 and were last held in 2022.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is all set to display its power in the Vayu Shakti-24 exercises, which will be held on February 17 in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer.
A full dress rehearsal was held on Wednesday and the IAF shared a glimpse on its social media handle.
"Beginning the Exercise Vayushakti24 with a Big "Supersonic" Bang," it tweeted.
According to the IAF, this year, about 121 planes, including 77 fighters and 41 helicopters, and five aircraft will participate in a two-hour exercise demonstrating surface, air, and air-to-ground capabilities.
The exercise will demonstrate indigenous Surface Air Weapon systems in Akash and Samar. The weapon systems will highlight their ability to track and shoot down intruding aircraft, underlining India's growing self-reliance in defense technology.
The aircraft the IAF will use include:
Tejas,
Prachand attack helicopters and ALH Dhruv Rafale,
Su-30MKIs,
LCA Tejas,
Mirage 2000,
Sukhoi and MiG-29s,
Jaguar, Hawk,
C-130J, Chinook,
Apache,
Mi-17.
Earlier, Air Force Vice Chief-Air Marshal AP Singh said that the IAF would be showcasing its capability to carry out accurate bombing on targets in the exercise.
