The Indian army has unveiled a new bridge-laying system for crossing rivers designed in-country. The new 46-meter modular bridge system, indigenously designed and manufactured by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and produced by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), is all set to replace the manually launched Medium Girder Bridges (MGB) used by the Indian Army for rapid bridging operations. This cutting-edge fully equipped structure can be mechanically launched with ease, enabling army officers to overcome obstacles such as canals and ditches. At the induction ceremony, officials announced the gradual introduction of 41 sets of modular bridge systems, valued at INR 25 billion ($311 million), over the next four years. The Modular Bridge system consists of seven carrier vehicles based on 8x8 Heavy Mobility Vehicles, and two launcher vehicles, based on 10x10 Heavy Mobility Vehicles. It offers exceptional mobility, durability, and rapid deployment and retrieval capabilities, making it perfectly suited for the fast-paced demands of mechanised operations. The introduction of the new modular bridge system showcases India's strength in designing and producing cutting-edge military equipment, reinforcing the country's dedication to becoming self-reliant in defence manufacturing.
