As election fever sweeps through India, a multitude of controversies have begun to surface. Political parties are trading accusations, while their supporters passionately defend their chosen candidates.
With only a few days left till the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in India, Parakala Prabhakar, a renowned economist and husband of country’s finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has made startling claims that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are re-elected for a third term then this will be the last time that elections will be held in the country.
Prabhakar also claimed that not only will Modi give a hate speech from the Red Fort, but he also asserted that India's map will change.
The economist made these claims during an interview with an Indian journalist, and a video of the interview is circulating on social media platforms.
This is not the first time that Prabhakar has spoken out against the BJP-led federal government or Prime Minister Modi. In March, he criticized the electoral bond scheme as not just the largest swindle in India, but the largest scam in the world.
Prabhakar's comments garnered attention from India's main opposition party, Congress, as well as some Western media outlets and their supporters.
Sputnik India reached out to political analyst Desh Ratan Nigam to gain insight into the motives behind Prabhakar's statements and whether there might be a vested foreign interest in creating unrest in India to impede its economic progress and global reputation.

Section of Leftist Cabal Uneasy with Modi

When discussing the reasons behind Prabhakar's claims, Nigam informed Sputnik India that they are inaccurate and unfounded.

“In fact, the difficulty with a certain section of society is that their shops have been shut so [the] propagandist cabal, Congress and some of the regional political parties don’t want Modi to win, but the fact is that all the surveys are showing that he’s coming back with a huge margin,” the political analyst said.

He further noted that such claims are being made to instill doubt in the minds of the people that Modi will become a dictator.
Highlighting the achievements of the BJP-led federal government, the political expert pointed out that when considering various factors such as development, implementation of social welfare programs, and the treatment of minorities, the government's accomplishments are truly remarkable.

He stated that it is inconceivable for a country that has been the mother of democracy not to hold elections in the future.

Plot to Stir Up Chaos in India

Nigam noted that it appears there may be a deliberate attempt to sow chaos and discord in the country following the BJP's victory.
He said that a few days ago, Rahul Gandhi stated that if BJP wins, then the country would be on fire which means that they would create chaos and anarchy nationwide.

“The Indian government has to be on its toes and very careful about such kind of elements be it Sitharaman’s husband, Rahul Gandhi or anybody else because there are indications that they are not going to accept defeat, which is impending, and would like to create a ruckus through communal riots or similar events,” Nigam cautioned.

Western Countries Struggling to Accept India's Rising Economic Power

Commenting on the section of the Western media that is promoting Prabhakar's views, Nigam remarked that India is increasingly becoming a formidable competitor to stalwarts like the US and the European Union, a reality that they are finding difficult to accept and are consequently displeased by.

“The main reason why they don’t like India’s growth is because of the issues going on in their own countries. If you see, the US economy is going down and similarly Europe is feeling the heat of economic crisis so they are trying to put India down instead of putting their own house in order,” the political analyst said.

Nigam said that despite the challenging global situation, India's economy has been steadily growing. It is evident that these are prosperous times for India. He added that it is in the interest of the US and other Western countries to be on good terms with New Delhi as it is a rising power and there’s no point interfering in the South Asian giant's internal matters.
