Presidential inaugurations in Russia have taken place on May 7 since 2000.
Vladimir Putin is being sworn in as president of Russia in Moscow on Tuesday in what will become his fifth inauguration ceremony as head of state.
The Grand Kremlin Palace is hosting the solemn inauguration ceremony, and the event is attended by Russian government officials, members of parliament, Constitutional Court justices, Russian and foreign diplomats, as well as prominent representatives of business and show business.
The Russian presidential election took place on March 15-17, and saw Putin re-elected with 87.28% of the vote to serve as president for another six-year term.
On the occasion of the presidential inauguration, the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' is performing a prayer service in the Kremlin’s Annunciation Cathedral. According to tradition, the president is present at the service.
On inauguration day, the Russian government, led by the chairman, resigns its powers to the newly elected president of the country. All cabinet members continue to perform their duties until a new government is formed.
