US claims India is suppressing religious freedom are aimed at destabilizing the situation within the country during the general elections, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, María Zakharova, said on Wednesday. She stated that the repeated baseless allegations made by the US against New Delhi regarding the infringement of religious freedoms serve as an indication of Washington's clear lack of understanding of the national mindset and the historical background of India's state development.Such actions by the US reflect a complete lack of respect for India as a sovereign state and amount to US meddling in India's internal affairs, she added.Zakharova's statement highlighted the growing tensions between the West and Russia, as well as their respective interests in India's domestic politics.

US is Trying to Destabilise India Amid General Elections: Russian MFA
20:22 08.05.2024 (Updated: 21:46 08.05.2024) The current general election in India, being held from April to June, is poised to be the world's largest exercise of democracy, with 968 million registered voters, 14 million election commission employees, and 1.2 million polling booths.
US claims India is suppressing religious freedom are aimed at destabilizing the situation within the country during the general elections, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, María Zakharova, said on Wednesday.
She stated that the repeated baseless allegations made by the US against
New Delhi regarding the infringement of religious freedoms serve as an indication of Washington's clear lack of understanding of the national mindset and the historical background of India's state development.
Such actions by the US reflect a complete lack of respect for India as a sovereign state and amount to US meddling in India's internal affairs, she added.
“The reason is in an effort to unbalance the internal political situation in India in order to complicate the general parliamentary elections taking place in the country," Zakharova said during a briefing session.
Zakharova's statement highlighted the growing
tensions between the West and
Russia, as well as their respective interests in India's domestic politics.
