The Afghan government's proposal to create an oil export route from Russia to South Asia through its territory would not only boost its economy, but also strengthen ties in the energy sector with the neighbouring countries.
Afghanistan is planning to initiate talks with Moscow on establishing a logistics centre in the province of Herat that aims to streamline exports, including Russian oil, to South Asia, Afghan Minister of Industry and Trade Nuriddin Azizi told Sputnik.

“We want to start negotiations on this matter, and for part of the transit of Russian oil to pass through the territory of Afghanistan – this is the closest route”, Azizi said during the ongoing Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum.

He also mentioned that Kabul has already implemented a programme to develop a similar logistics centre in collaboration with Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
Azizi previously told Reuters that the Taliban* is banking on “millions of tons of oil” that Russia is expected to sell to South Asian countries in the coming years.
