Three ships of the Indian Navy docked in the Philippines on Monday in a strategic move by the Eastern Fleet that underscores the robust relationship between the two navies.Rear Admiral Rajesh Dhankha is leading the deployment, which includes INS Delhi, INS Shakti and INS Kiltan.This visit coincides with the ongoing operational deployment of the Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet in the South China Sea, against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the region.During the visit, personnel from both navies will engage in various professional activities, including Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE), sports events, cross-deck visits, cultural exchanges, and collaborative community outreach programs. Tensions between China and the Philippines have risen over the Scarborough Shoal, which lies some 220 kilometres off the Philippine coast within its exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The area is a traditional fishing ground used by several nations and is close to major shipping lanes.India and the Philippines established diplomatic relations in November 1949, shortly after gaining independence. Although cordial, relations have remained relatively low-key.

Three ships of the Indian Navy docked in the Philippines on Monday in a strategic move by the Eastern Fleet that underscores the robust relationship between the two navies.
Rear Admiral Rajesh Dhankha is leading the deployment, which includes INS Delhi, INS Shakti and INS Kiltan.
“Towards further strengthening the longstanding friendship & maritime cooperation, IndianNavy ships INS Delhi, INS Shakti & INS Kiltan arrived at Manila, Philippines, 19 May 2024. The ships were accorded a warm welcome by the @Philippine_Navy," as per an announcement by the Indian Navy spokesperson on X (Former Twitter).
This visit coincides with the ongoing operational deployment of the Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet in the South China Sea, against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the region.
During the visit,
personnel from both navies will engage in various professional activities, including

Nevertheless, Indian Navy and Coast Guard vessels regularly visit the Philippines, and there has been an increase in the participation of officers from both militaries in specialised training courses and visits by delegations from the National Defence College.
