Narendra Modi-led NDA is poised for a third consecutive term in office after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its alliance partners surged ahead, with leads in over 290 constituencies as of 7.30 PM on Tuesday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov said that the state's leader will be holding talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the completion of counting for Lok Sabha polls though the winner of the polls was already known.

"Mr Modi will be happy to talk to the president [Russian Federation] but only after the vote counting is over. But the winner is already known," Ushakov said ahead of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

Ushakov added that Russia monitored India's elections closely.

"Naturally, we have been closely following the course of the elections in India. Now, as far as we know, the final vote count is underway," he added.

Ushakov's comments came after the Election Commission of India (ECI) showed that the BJP-led alliance was set to win over 290 seats, with Modi's party alone poised to claim victory on 240 seats.
Following the development, Modi claimed victory in the Indian polls.
"People have placed their faith in NDA, for a third consecutive time! This is a historical feat in India’s history," he posted on Twitter.
