Indian wushu player Aparna Dahiya won India's first gold medal after defeating Belarusian competitor Yana Tratseuskaya in the women's 48 kg category in the finals at the ongoing 2024 BRICS Games held in Kazan, Russia.Dahiya previously won the Khelo India Wushu League of the North Zone in 2023 and the Wushu Cup in Russia in 2022 and 2024.Meanwhile, Nikita Bansal, competing in the women's 65 kg category, clinched a silver medal after losing in the closely-fought bout against Iran's Soheila Mansourian Semiromi in the finals. Jahanvi Mehra secured a sensational bronze medal in the women's 56 kg category.Sunil Singh Mayanglambam and Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh claimed silver medals in the men's 56 kg and 65 kg categories respectively after a tough final match against natives Arsen Umalatov and Shamil Lavazanov.At the same time, Indian Air Force Sergeant Karnajit Sharma Hanjabam of India's Wushu team bagged a bronze medal in the Wushu-Taijiquan Men's event, scoring 9.820 in the BRICS Games 2024.Wushu players Vikrant Baliyan and Anuj secured bronze after losing in their semi-final matches in men's 75 kg and 52 kg categories respectively.According to the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the country is currently placed seventh in the overall standings, with 14 medals, including one gold, three silver, and 10 bronze won in table tennis, wushu, and other sports.
