MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry has recalled its ambassadors from seven countries, including the United States, Russia, Germany, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the Maldives, attributing it to "ongoing changes", Bangladeshi news portal UNB reported on Thursday.
The Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry has issued and sent separate transfer orders to the heads of the diplomatic missions saying that "decision has been taken to transfer you to Dhaka," the report said.
Bangladesh's interim government will soon send new ambassadors to these countries and other changes are likely to take place, it added.
Protests against the Bangladeshi government's quota system for public jobs erupted in June and escalated at the beginning of August. Clashes between students, police, and government supporters reportedly left more than 500 people dead. Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned amid the unrest. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus was sworn in as interim prime minister on August 8.
