TASHKENT, (Sputnik) – JSC "Uztemiryulkonteyner" (a subsidiary of Uzbekistan Railways) has launched multimodal container transportation from India to Uzbekistan, the operator said on Wednesday.
"JSC 'Uztemiryulkonteyner' successfully organized a new multimodal route for container transportation from the Indian ports of Mundra, Nhava Sheva and Chennai to Uzbekistan," the company stated.
The cargo is first delivered to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, and then by rail to Iran's Sarakhs station, after which they are reloaded onto the platforms of the Uzbekistan Railways' subsidiary and sent to Uzbekistan via Turkmenistan.
The company also said that the first freight train, consisting of 20 containers of 20 feet each, had covered 2,673 km (1660 miles) in 20 days, adding that in the future, it is planned to reduce the delivery time to 15 days.
