Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has shed light on the evolving role of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) in global geopolitics, hinting at a potential expansion that reflects the shifting dynamics of international relationships.
Speaking ahead of the upcoming BRICS summit in Russia's Kazan, Jaishankar emphasised that the expansion may not be limited to increasing membership but could encompass broader strategic engagement.
"Many others today want multiple options, they want to have a larger spread in terms of their relationships," he said.
This surge of interest reflects a broader global trend of moving away from the rigid alliances that characterised the post-World War II order, Jaishankar noted noted.
The upcoming BRICS summit is expected to focus on how to accommodate this growing interest in the economic bloc. The summit will take place in kazan on 22–24 October.
