Kremlin Proves Trump's Claims About Denuclearisation Deal Untrue
18:11 10.10.2024 (Updated: 18:24 10.10.2024) MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Former US President Donald Trump's statements that Russia, China and the United States were close to a deal on complete denuclearisation are not true, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said on Thursday.
"No, this does not correspond to reality. It is well known that the Trump administration's attempts to put a Chinese delegation and representatives to the negotiating table with us have failed," Ryabkov told reporters.
There is currently no basis for negotiations with the US on strategic stability because of the hostile, anti-Russian line being pursued by the US and its allies in Europe, Ryabkov said, adding that there could be no negotiations on the extension of the New START (New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty), until this line was changed.
A meeting of representatives of the five nuclear-weapon states in the P5 format will be held in the next couple of weeks on the sidelines of the First Committee meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York, the minister added.
