In the age of narrative building and information warfare, Western media use disinformation to distort public opinion, experts have told Sputnik India.
Western media, far from being impartial, aligns itself with the imperial interests of its governments and shapes narratives to serve their agendas, independent journalist Deepak Tiwari told Sputnik India.

He pointed out to the dubious standards of western media, stating that it promotes press freedom, while banning outlets opposed to Western countries' agenda.

"The Western media's bias is evident in its approach to Hindu phobia and selective reporting," he added. "For instance, anti-Hindu riots in Bangladesh went largely unreported, with the media dismissing it as Indian propaganda. Their double standards and half-truths are glaring."
Western media has its own agenda, which favours negative stories about the Global South, echoed Anil Trigunayat, a former ambassador to Jordan, Libya and Malta.

"Sometimes it accentuates their governments' positions and, by its sheer power and outreach, can generate narratives that are inimical to the interests of developing countries, including those from South Asia."

Western media receives money or other benefits in return for its prejudiced coverage and promoting the Western narrative and agenda, senior journalist, political and defence analyst M. A. Hossain asserted.
They publish twisted and distorted information on several countries, inclyuding Afghanistan, Iran, India and Pakistan, he said.

"In addition to using the media to spread propaganda and promote Western agendas, the political West is also utilising various NGOs, such as News Guard, Wikipedia, and others, to gauge the voice of independent media in the world, including the Global South," Hossain stressed.

The West does not believe in democracy, freedom of expression or free press, he charged. They use such terminologies as mere excuses to intimidate targeted nations throughout the world, Hossain concluded.
