Former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan has been found guilty in connection with inciting riots in May 2023.
The Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore convicted Imran Khan in relation to the violence on May 9 2023, and revoked his bail rights in eight related cases.
The Express tribune reported the court referred to audio and video evidence confirming Khan's role in inciting the violence.
After Khan's subsequent arrest, his supporters clashed with police on May 9, 2023, set houses and vehicles on fire and attacked Pakistani military installations. Some 40 people were killed and more than 300 injured during the riots.
Khan, who served as Pakistan's Prime Minister from 2018 to 2022, was removed from office on April 10, 2022 in a parliamentary vote of no confidence.
He was arrested in August 2023 in connection with a fraud case related to the sale of valuables from the state treasury, Toshakhana.
He has since faced additional charges, including treason related to the leaking of a classified diplomatic cable.
While many of the charges against him were dropped during the appeals process, the former prime minister remains in custody on charges of abuse of power.
