"The demand for knowledge of the Russian and Hindi languages will only continue to rise, as our relations develop, requiring an increasing number of specialists," said Volodin during a meeting with the leadership and students of Mumbai University, accoring to Russian media.Over the past ten years, 135,000 students from India have received education in Russia, going on to become doctors, engineers, and experts in other fields, Volodin noted.Furthermore, the goal set by President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to achieve a $100 billion trade turnover would drive increased activity from both countries' companies, expanding the scope of bilateral cooperation, he emphasised. He also stressed that the long-standing relationship between Russia and India goes beyond mere trade figures. He emphasised that prioritising the improvement of education is essential, as it lays the foundation for technological and economic development. Demand for Russian, Hindi Languages on the Rise, Notes State Duma Speaker
14:27 04.02.2025 (Updated: 14:31 04.02.2025) MUMBAI (Sputnik) – Russia's State Duma speaker, Vyacheslav Volodin, highlighted during his official visit to India the growing interest in learning Russian language in India and Hindi in Russia.
"The demand for knowledge of the Russian and Hindi languages will only continue to rise, as our relations develop, requiring an increasing number of specialists," said Volodin during a meeting with the leadership and students of Mumbai University, accoring to Russian media.
Over the past ten years, 135,000 students from India have received education in Russia, going on to become doctors, engineers, and experts in other fields, Volodin noted.
"Today, India ranks second among our key partners in terms of volume. For India, Russia is its fourth-largest partner in external economic relations and trade turnover. Last year, when reviewing the trade turnover, we saw a significant increase, which has already exceeded $60 billion for the year," Volodin added.
Furthermore, the goal set by President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to achieve a $100 billion trade turnover would drive increased activity from both countries' companies, expanding the scope of bilateral cooperation, he emphasised.
He also stressed that the long-standing relationship between Russia and India goes beyond mere trade figures.
"These are also significant cultural exchanges, humanitarian programmes, and educational initiatives, which is why the demand for language knowledge is growing. In this regard, we attach great importance to teaching the language both here in India and in our country," Volodin added.
He emphasised that prioritising the improvement of education is essential, as it lays the foundation for technological and economic development. When a country neglects its education system, its economic progress inevitably slows down, the State Duma speaker pointed out.
Russian language has been taught as a foreign language at the Mumbai University (previously University of Bombay) for 60 years, and the department of Russian language has been established for more than 20 years, he highlighted.
The University has long been known for shaping global political leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi, a key figure in India’s fight for independence and a renowned human rights advocate, who was one of its alumni, Volodin underscored.
