MOSCOW Sputnik) - Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Thursday that it had prevented a NATO-backed Ukrainian intelligence operation aimed at intercepting personal data of teenagers in Moscow and its region for recruitment.
"The Russian FSB has thwarted an operation supervised by NATO intelligence services by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry to intercept personal data of students at educational institutions in Moscow and the Moscow Region for their subsequent recruitment," the FSB said in a statement.
Ukrainian special services gained access to correspondence of military-patriotic dictation organizsers, changed files and sent them to Moscow schools with the aim of collecting personal data of teenagers for recruitment into intelligence activities against Russia, the statement read.
Thanks to the FSB's counterintelligence measures, the consequences of the operation were localized, and educational institutions were warned of possible provocations, the FSB said, adding that operational and investigative measures are currently being carried out on this fact.
