The interim leader of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, has proposed reducing tariffs on American exports to the South Asian nation by 50%.
Yunus also asked US President Donald Trump to suspend the 37% tariff on Bangladeshi imports for three months, according to a letter Yunus sent to Trump.

"Bangladesh will take all necessary actions to fully support your [US] trade programme. Please grant us the necessary time for the smooth implementation of this important work in consultation with US officials. Therefore, I would like to ask you to postpone the application of retaliatory tariffs on Bangladesh's exports to the US for three months," the letter posted on X says.

On 2 April, Trump announced the imposition of customs duties on products from 185 countries and territories. The universal 10% tariffs came into effect on 5 April, while the individual tariffs will begin on 9 April.
