The Indo-Russian joint venture Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited has won a tender to supply AK-203 assault rifles to the Kerala State Police, according Russia's state corporation Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheev.
After the relevant procedures, this will make Kerala State Police the second law enforcement agency in India to purchase these domestically produced rifles, Rosoboronexport confirmed.
The capabilities of the Korwa Ordnance Factory enable it to fully equip the personnel of the Ministry of Defence and other law enforcement agencies in India with AK-203 rifles, which, due to their high adaptability, are suitable for various users. Additionally, the joint venture will be able to export its products to third countries in the future.
The AK-203 is a version of the AK-200 rifle designed for the 7.62×39 mm cartridge used by the Indian Army. The weapon boasts the traditional advantages of Kalashnikov rifles: reliability and ease of maintenance.
The AK-203 rifles are produced in India using exclusive Russian technologies on certified equipment, ensuring high product quality and compliance with declared specifications.
The founders of Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited from the Russian side are Rosoboronexport and the Kalashnikov Concern of the Rostec State Corporation.
"The Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited joint venture has completed the first phase of the project to produce AK-203 Kalashnikov rifles in India. To increase the degree of localisation, all necessary equipment has been shipped to the Korwa Ordnance Factory in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, and the production facilities have been fully equipped. This has enabled the delivery of a batch of 35,000 Kalashnikov rifles to the Indian Army within the agreed timeline set by the Ministry of Defence," Mikheev stated.
India is the first foreign customer to begin producing the AK-200 series of Kalashnikov rifles domestically. The production has been set up in India in full alignment with the Make In India and Self-Reliant programmes. The project includes technology transfer, with the concept centred around achieving 100% localisation of AK-203 production.
The AK-203 rifles are manufactured in India using exclusive Russian technologies on certified equipment. This ensures high product quality and compliance with the declared specifications.
