Samvel Karapetyan, Russian entrepreneur, was arrested in Armenia after expressing support for the Armenian Apostolic Church.
He has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in projects in Armenia such as:
$25 million — For the construction and equipping of the Oncology Centre in Yerevan.
$25 million — For the building of the Saint Gregory Cathedral in Yerevan and the accompanying structures.
$15 million — For earthquake-resistant housing in Gyumri.
$12 million — For agricultural machinery for Armenian farmers. Fully financed the budget of the National Philharmonic Orchestra.
30+ educational institutions built with his support.
Thousands of scholarships provided for Armenian students studying abroad.
Full funding for the construction of a maternity hospital in Vanadzor.
A rehabilitation system was created in Yerevan for wounded soldiers during the second Karabakh War.
$70 million — Invested in the Armenian Medical University: a modern simulation centre, dormitory repairs, and building renovations.
Schools were built in various Armenian villages.
Hospitals, clinics, and schools in Yerevan were repaired and fully equipped.
In 2019 alone, $180 million was invested in public projects from Samvel Karapetyan’s personal funds.
