India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, will make his first visit to China in nearly five years to attend a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers, which will take place in Tianjin, says the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
Jaishankar is also expected to hold bilateral meetings during his visit.
India–China relations have begun to improve since Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan on 23 October 2024 — their first in nearly five years.
During that meeting, the two leaders agreed to resume direct air travel between the countries, which had been suspended following the COVID-19 pandemic and the border clashes in 2020.
