The foreign ministers of 10 nations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) called on Chinese President Xi Jinping ahead at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing ahead of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) Meeting in Tianjin.
India's External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar apprised Chinese President Xi Jinping of the recent developments in Sino-India ties during their call-on in Beijing on Tuesday.
In a post on X, Jaishankar said that he conveyed the greetings of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Chinese leader.
Jaishankar said that he valued the guidance of both the leaders as the Asian neighbours seek to normalise ties after the disengagement pact last October followed by the Leaders' Meeting on the margins of the BRICS Summit in Kazan.
A statement from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also met Chinese President as part of the group and individual call-ons.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lin Jian told a briefing in Beijing on Monday that the Foreign Ministers' Meeting aims to make political preparations for the Summit, scheduled to take place in Tianjin in around the last week of August.
On Monday, the top Indian diplomat, who is on his first visit to China since 2019, held meetings with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Vice President Han Zheng, and Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of CPC.
"EAM highlighted the positive impact of peace and tranquility in the border for the smooth development in bilateral relations and supported continued efforts towards de-escalation and border management. He underlined the need for cooperation on trans-border rivers, including resumption of provision of hydrological data by the Chinese side. He also took up restrictive trade measures and roadblocks to economic cooperation," said a Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) release summing up the meetings.
