Earlier on Friday, the European Council announced new sanctions against Russia, which included an automatic mechanism for adjusting the price cap on Russian oil, reducing the maximum price from $60 to $47.6 per barrel.India, being the third-largest importer of energy resources globally, sources over 80% of its oil from international markets.Earlier this week, the Indian media, citing data from the raw materials analytics company Kpler, reported that India’s oil imports from Russia reached an 11-month high in June. This surge in purchases followed increased geopolitical tensions between Israel and Iran.It is also highlighted that Russia continues to be India's largest oil supplier in 2025, with the average supply from January to June reaching 1.67 million barrels per day, slightly higher than the 1.66 million barrels per day during the same period last year.

India Slams EU for Double Standards in Energy Trade: MEA
11:22 19.07.2025 (Updated: 19:14 19.07.2025) India has cautioned the European Union (EU) against applying double standards, especially when it comes to the trade of energy resources. This statement was made by Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
Earlier on Friday, the European Council announced new sanctions against Russia, which included an automatic mechanism for adjusting the price cap on Russian oil, reducing the maximum price from $60 to $47.6 per barrel.
"We have noted the latest sanctions announced by the European Union. India does not subscribe to any unilateral sanction measures. We are a responsible actor and remain fully committed to our legal obligations," the Indian MEA remarked.
India, being the third-largest importer of energy resources globally, sources over 80% of its oil from international markets.
Earlier this week, the Indian media, citing data from the raw materials analytics company Kpler, reported that India’s oil imports from Russia reached an 11-month high in June. This surge in purchases followed increased geopolitical tensions between Israel and Iran.
It is also highlighted that Russia continues to be India's largest oil supplier in 2025, with the average supply from January to June reaching 1.67 million barrels per day, slightly higher than the 1.66 million barrels per day during the same period last year.
