India Committed to Closer Russia Partnership – Jaishankar

India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar affirmed India's commitment to strengthening strategic partnership with Russia during the meeting of the Russia-India Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific-Technical, and Cultural Cooperation.
India and Russia's main priorities are better trade logistics, more joint ventures, and moving on skilling and mobility, Jaishankar emphasised. He also highlighted promoting connectivity through International North-South Transport Corridor.
Russia is helping India to build high speed electric trains, Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, who co-chaired the meeting, said in his turn.
Trade turnover between Russia and India has increased nearly sevenfold over the past five years, with India ranking among Russia's top three major foreign trade partners, Manturov stated.
Russia and India have shifted over 90% of payments between the countries to national currencies, with ensuring uninterrupted settlements being a key priority, Manturov said.

The Deputy PM also revealed the ongoing preparations for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin summit later this year.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Jaishankar paid tribute at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow.

The Indian minister is co-chairing the 26th session of the Russia-India Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific-Technical, and Cultural Cooperation.
