The crew of a new Russian T-90MS tank highlighted its strengths at the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) 2025 in Abu Dhabi, telling how the vehicle offers exceptional resilience, crew comfort and battlefield performance.
Thanks to the T-90's upgraded protection systems, the tank can withstand multiple hits in combat while continuing its mission, the crew said.
They also stressed that Russian tanks are easy to repair, with damaged vehicles often restored and returned to service multiple times without any loss of combat capability.
The T-90MS, built by Uralvagonzavod (UVZ), is a next-generation tank that incorporates lessons from the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
The new tank is fitted with reinforced protection against anti-tank guided missiles and the attack drones now widely used in modern warfare. The tank also features advanced fire-control systems, optics and other modern equipment.
According to its operators, the T-90MS has proven itself in real combat and is “the best main battle tank in the world today”. Its close relative, the T-90M Proryv (“Breakthrough”), is already being bought in large numbers by the Russian Ministry of Defence.
Speaking to Sputnik India, UVZ crew members said the export version of the T-90MS is much more comfortable for soldiers than earlier models and the older T-72 family.

“One of the biggest improvements is the turret,” one crew member explained. “It’s more spacious, better laid out, and ergonomics have been given serious attention."

"The T-90MS even has air conditioning, which makes a huge difference when the hatches are closed," he added. "In cold weather, the fighting compartment can be heated too.”
The crew added that for the first time, the tank has been fitted with compartments for storing small personal items.

“There are both internal and external storage spaces,” they said. “There’s no fridge, but there are dedicated units for dry rations and canned food.”
They also spoke about their experience supporting tanks in Ukraine as part of front line repair teams. During offensives, tanks are frequently damaged by mines, RPGs and drones.
Sometimes vehicles return to base with drone debris still stuck to their armour or with a mangled “barbecue grill" of slat armour – equipment that, despite the damage, often saves crews’ lives from anti-tank warheads.
The crew noted a significant reduction in damage caused by drones compared with the early stages of the conflict, crediting the success of electronic warfare systems, slat armour and other protective measures.
