Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly described the Indo-Russian relationship as "special and privileged."
India's independent and sovereign policy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is yielding good economic results, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.

"Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India is pursuing an absolutely independent and sovereign policy," Putin told a cabinet members via videolink.

"Most importantly, it is achieving very good economic results," he added. "India is demonstrating the highest rates of economic growth among the world's major economies."
Relations between Russia and India are based on a national consensus in both countries, the Russian president stressed.
"These relations are based on a national consensus in both Russia and India," he added.
Modi lauded Russia for its support during crises after meeting Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin earlier this month, stressing that close cooperation between the two nations was vital for "global peace."

"India and Russia have always stood shoulder-to-shoulder even in the most difficult situations," Modi said. "Our close cooperation is important not only for the people of both our countries, but also for global peace, stability and prosperity."
