Indian relics of the Buddha will travel to Russia for the first time this month.
The artefacts kept at the National Museum will be exhibited at the third International Buddhist Forum (IBF) in Elista, the capital of the Kalmykia Republic, from September 24 to 28 , the Indian Ministry of Culture said on Monday.

New Delhi has said that the event would strive to nurture a "spiritual dialogue and foster cultural unity."
The statement said that Kalmyks, who inhabit the Caspian Sea-bordering Russian region, are descendants of Oirat Mongols who migrated from Western Mongolia in the 17th century.
"Their history is deeply tied to nomadic lifestyles, which influences their culture. They are the only ethnic group in Europe that practices Mahayana Buddhism," the Culture Ministry said.
It added that a high-level delegation of monks from Kalmykia had visited India and asked India's Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Sekhawat and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju to lend the
sacred relics to Russia.
