Indian Archaeologists Hand Over Five Buddha Statues for Preservation to Cambodia
Since 2003, the Archaeological Survey of India has been working on restoring Ta Prohm Temple in Cambodia, dedicated to Lord Brahma (Prohm), and successfully retrieving statues and artifacts including those of Lord Buddha.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has handed over five statues to Cambodia's APSARA National Authority for preservation after they were discovered during the removal of the stones at Ta Prohm temple's south gate in 2023.
These five statues included two statues of Buddha sheltered by a Naga, one Avalokiteśvara, and two Buddha statues with a broken head and hands.
Neth Simon, an archaeologist from the APSARA National Authority, stated that after discovering six statues, the team meticulously cleaned, documented, and carefully observed them. Their findings revealed that five of the statues were not related to the structure of the south gate, except for one pediment, which features a carving of the Buddha.
Further excavation and investigation are underway to unravel the ancient mysteries buried under Ta Prohm Temple in Cambodia.
