Bangladesh inaugurated the country's first-ever supply pipeline for jet fuel at the Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram on Tuesday, in what is being billed as a major milestone in the South Asian nation's aviation sector, state media Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) reported.
"This is the first airport in Bangladesh to receive jet fuel through a dedicated pipeline. The project will ensure modern, eco-friendly, and efficient fuel delivery to aircraft," Mohammad Saiful Islam, Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, said while presiding over the inaugural ceremony.
The project would reduce transport costs, cut risks, in addition to improving operational efficiency in the
management of aviation fuel, he added.
The pipeline, which spans six kilometers, has been built by Padma Oil Company Limited. Padma Oil Company is a subsidiary of the state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and will move jet fuel from Guptakhal in Patenga to the Chattogram airport.
