Russia has full respect for India's foreign policy, and as part of the bilateral cooperation promotion, Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit New Delhi in December, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Saturday.
"We fully respect the national interests of India, we fully respect the foreign policy that [Indian Prime Minister] Narendra Modi uses to advance his national interests, and we have established regular highest-level contacts. Most recently, Prime Minister Modi and [Vladimir] Putin met at the SCO summit in Tianjin, and Putin is planning a visit to New Delhi in December," Lavrov said at a press-conference following his speech at the High-level Week of the 80th UN General Assembly session.
The trade partnership between Russia and India is not under any threat due to sanctions, as New Delhi chooses its own partners, Lavrov added.
"It [the economic partnership] is not under threat, I have no doubt. No one is trying to hurt it. And if anyone is going to take such steps, I would like to say once again that the Indian Prime Minister and the Indian Foreign Minister have explained everything - India chooses its own partners. If the US has a proposal on how to enrich the bilateral trade turnover between the US and India, they are ready to discuss the conditions," the foreign minister said.
