U.S. President Donald Trump recently claimed that his use of tariffs helped prevent a war between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan.
Speaking about the high-stakes situation between the two nuclear-armed nations, Trump suggested that without his intervention through tariffs, the conflict might have escalated into full-scale war.
"If I didn’t have the power of tariffs, you would have at least four of the seven wars raging. I used tariffs to stop wars. If you look at India and Pakistan, they were ready to go at it. Seven planes were shot down. They were ready to go at it, and they’re nuclear powers," Trump said.
India has previously emphasised that the conflict was resolved bilaterally.
The president further emphasized the importance of tariffs, stating, "Tariffs are very important for the United States. We are a peacekeeper because of tariffs."
This is not the first time President Trump has made similar claims about using tariffs to prevent conflicts.
