Pakistan and Afghanistan are set to reopen peace discussions in Istanbul in an effort to revive negotiations that broke down earlier this week, according to Pakistan’s Defence Minister and state-run media outlets from both nations.
The upcoming talks—mediated by Turkey along with several allied countries—aim to reduce border tensions following recent clashes that left multiple soldiers, civilians, and militants dead.
Although the last round of dialogue ended without progress, the ceasefire between the two sides has largely remained intact, and no fresh border incidents have been reported this week. However, major border crossings remain sealed, leaving hundreds of trucks carrying supplies and refugees stuck on both sides.
Pakistan agreed to continue the talks at the request of Qatar and Turkey, Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif told Geo News.
He added that the Pakistani delegation, which was scheduled to return home on Wednesday night, was asked to remain in Istanbul to continue the peace process.
