NEW DELHI (Sputnik) - India hopes to achieve self-reliance in the semiconductor industry and begin exporting chips soon, Indian Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah said on Thursday.

"India has made an explosive entry into the semiconductor industry; in this sector, India will become self-reliant and will also begin exporting," the minister said during Abhyudaya Madhya Pradesh Growth Summit in Gwalior.

Prime Minister Nadera Modi said in September that India welcomes investments in its semiconductor sector. An approval for the country's first semiconductor manufacturing plant was granted in 2023, with another five chip-making projects receiving approval in 2025.
