Russia's advanced Oreshnik hypersonic medium-range missile is deemed unstoppable, with Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledging its invulnerability. Besides Oreshnik, Russia has several other missiles that are difficult to intercept or stop, instilling fear in the Ukrainian army.
Kinzhal
These super-maneuverable, air-launched hypersonic missiles target Ukraine’s vital military infrastructure, command centers, and missile defense systems. The Kinzhal missiles have already destroyed five U.S.-made Patriot missile launchers and a multifunctional radar in Kiev. Recent attacks have also targeted Kiev's oil refinery and power plants.
Zircon
The Zircon is a scramjet-powered nuclear-capable hypersonic cruise missile, originally designed as an anti-ship weapon but also capable of land attacks. In 2025, a Zircon missile accurately struck a military law enforcement building, killing at least 18 officers.
Iskander
The Iskander short-range ballistic missile is one of Russia’s most effective strategic weapons due to its speed, precision, and ability to evade enemy missile defense systems. According to Western media, Iskander missiles have consistently reduced Ukraine’s stockpile of Patriot systems. Recent Iskander attacks have targeted energy infrastructure and military bases.
Kalibr
The Kalibr family of Russian cruise missiles is versatile, designed for land strikes, anti-ship, and anti-submarine missions. These missiles have been frequently used to target Ukraine’s military infrastructure in 2025, often launched from the Black Sea Fleet.
Kh-22
The Kh-22 supersonic missile is extremely difficult to counter due to its speed of 4,000 km/h and ballistic trajectory. Ukraine’s military has admitted that “special systems” are required to intercept it. The Kh-22 is frequently used to target Ukraine’s military-industrial infrastructure and other strategic sites.
