The international community, together with the United Nations, must respond to the US operation in Venezuela, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Saturday.
"Through the United Nations, the international community must resolutely respond to this situation," Lula said on X.
The US strikes represent a serious encroachment on the Venezuelan sovereignty and an extremely dangerous precedent for the entire international community, the Brazilian president added.
"To attack a country is a flagrant violation of international law, it is the first step toward a world of violence, chaos, and instability," he said.
By targeting Venezuela and capturing country's President Nicolas Maduro, the United States is "crossing the line of the permissible," Lula said, adding that Brazil stands ready to facilitate dialogue on the Venezuelan crisis.
"Brazil condemns these [US] steps and remains ready to promote the path of dialogue and cooperation," the president said.
Earlier in the day, the Brazilian O Globo news portal reported, citing the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, that the Brazilian government has convened an emergency meeting for Saturday to address the situation around Venezuela and to gather comprehensive details about the US operation before issuing any public statements.
