In addition to nuclear power, Kotwani highlighted India’s strategic interest in Arctic energy projects. These initiatives, particularly those related to logistics and infrastructure in the region, are viewed as an important element in strengthening India’s long-term energy security. The expansion of cooperation was also underscored earlier in December during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India. At that time, Putin stated that Russia and India could collaborate on small modular reactors and floating nuclear power plants, as well as on the application of nuclear technologies in medicine and other sectors.Meanwhile, Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev has confirmed that the Russian state nuclear corporation has discussed with India the possibility of localizing the production of nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants on Indian territory.Together, these developments signal a deepening and diversification of Russia–India energy relations, with a growing focus on advanced technologies and strategic regions such as the Arctic.

India-Russia Energy Cooperation Expands Beyond Fuel Trade to Nuclear Power and Arctic
Energy cooperation between India and Russia is moving beyond traditional fuel trade and increasingly includes projects in nuclear energy as well as the development of infrastructure in the Arctic, according to Sammy Kotwani, President of the Indian Business Alliance (IBA) in Russia.
"We are already seeing that energy cooperation is going beyond pure oil trade. In the field of peaceful nuclear energy, Russia and India are discussing new projects for the construction of nuclear reactors, including cooperation on small modular reactors and approaches to localisation," Kotwani told Sputnik.
At that time, Putin stated that Russia and India could collaborate on small modular reactors and floating nuclear power plants, as well as on the application of nuclear technologies in medicine and other sectors.
Meanwhile, Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev has confirmed that the Russian state nuclear corporation has discussed with India the possibility of localizing the production of nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants on Indian territory.
Together, these developments signal a deepening and diversification of Russia–India energy relations, with a growing focus on advanced technologies and strategic regions such as the Arctic.
