Russia will more actively support India's chairmanship of BRICS with its current agenda, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
"India's chairmanship has a relevant and modern programme that reflects today's objectives and targets tomorrow. We will be supporting it more actively," Lavrov said in an interview with the TV BRICS international media network out on Monday.
India has assumed the chairmanship of BRICS for 2026, taking over from Brazil.
India's presidency to BRICS, officially began on January 1, 2026, following Brazil's handover, marks the first time the country leads the expanded format.
As BRICS continues to evolve as a key force in the multipolar world, India's tenure is expected to advance South-South cooperation, economic connectivity, and sustainable development goals, building on past presidencies in 2016 and 2021.
