India's information technology (IT) sector could reach $400 billion by 2030, said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"The Indian IT sector has been the backbone of our services exports and a key driver of economic growth. Artificial intelligence (AI) represents both a huge opportunity and a challenge for this sector. AI market forecasts indicate that the Indian IT sector could reach $400 billion by 2030, driven by new waves of AI-enabled outsourcing and specialized automation," Modi said in an interview with the ANI news agency.
He noted that to build a strong Indian AI ecosystem, the government has developed a comprehensive strategy centered on the IndiaAI mission.
"We have already exceeded our initial GPU target and are committed to doing more to ensure affordable, world-class AI infrastructure for startups and enterprises. We have established four centers of excellence in healthcare, agriculture, education, and sustainable urban development, as well as five national centers of excellence in vocational training, to ensure our employees have the AI expertise required by the industry," the Indian Prime Minister said.
He noted that the Indian government's goal is for the country's IT sector to lead not only in providing services but also in creating AI-based products, platforms, and solutions that will be beneficial both in India and globally.
