The United States is afraid to deploy ground troops to Iran because it does not want to get entangled in an armed conflict for years, Phil Wilayto, a prominent US rights activist and author of a book about Iran, told Sputnik.
"The US is afraid to send in ground troops in Iran and in any war, because it knows that can last for years and the US public has no stomach for that," Wilayto, who authored a book titled "In Defense of Iran: Notes from a U.S. Peace Delegation’s Journey Through the Islamic Republic," said.
He suggested that at some point, the US will just declare victory and stop the war against Iran.
On Tuesday, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh warned that the US will face another Vietnam if it sends boots on the ground in Iran.
