Iranian armed forces continue to control the Strait of Hormuz and urges all ships to avoid transiting it without coordinating with Tehran, said Commander of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters of the Iranian armed forces Ali Abdollahi.
"We are doing everything in our power to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz and are managing the situation. We call on all commercial vessels and oil tankers to refrain from any passage without coordination with the armed forces stationed in the Strait of Hormuz, so that their safety is not put at risk," the Iranian state broadcaster quoted him as saying.
Abdollahi warned that any foreign military forces, particularly the US army, would be targeted if they attempted to approach or enter the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump previously announced Operation Freedom to remove ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, which would begin Monday morning (Middle East time). According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), US military support for this operation in the Strait of Hormuz will include destroyers, aircraft, and 15,000 troops.
On February 28, the US and Israel began striking targets in Iran, killing over 3,000 people. On April 8, Washington and Tehran announced a two-week ceasefire. Subsequent talks in Islamabad ended inconclusively, with no resumption of hostilities reported, but the US has begun a blockade of Iranian ports. Mediators are attempting to organize a new round of talks.
