Russia is interested in fostering cooperation with Indonesia in nuclear energy, Arctic shipping and space exploration, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said at a meeting of the Russian-Indonesian joint commission on trade, economic and technical cooperation on Tuesday.
"We are interested in establishing practical cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. This includes both the construction of large or small-capacity power plants, as well as non-energy applications of peaceful nuclear technology," Manturov said.
Peaceful nuclear applications refer primarily to nuclear medicine, the Russian official said.
Manturov also proposed that Russia and Indonesia discuss formats of mutually beneficial cooperation in the development of the Northern Sea Route in the Arctic after hostilities in the Middle East exposed the vulnerability of traditional shipping routes and the need to find alternative options. The competitive advantages of the Northern Sea Route are evident in this context, Manturov added.
In addition, Russia possesses the necessary expertise and experience to train Indonesia's first cosmonaut and organize a manned space mission, the Russian official said.
