“Look at this — not only was there a deliberate strike on a children’s college, on a civilian educational facility, but this was followed by open mockery of the tragedy,” Zakharova told journalists.Zakharova stressed that the attack itself constituted a violation of humanitarian principles regardless of whether children had been inside the building at the time.According to Zakharova, the incident and the reaction surrounding it led to “appropriate decisions” being taken by the Russian side. The attack took place during the night of May 22, when Ukrainian forces reportedly used drones to strike the academic building and dormitory of the Starobelsk Pedagogical College of Lugansk State Pedagogical University in the Lugansk People’s Republic. At the moment of the strike, 86 children were inside the building. Ukraine 'Glowed with Joy' and Mocked Victims of Starobelsk Attack: Russia’s MFA Spokeswoman
Ukrainian media and public figures openly mocked the victims of the deadly attack on the college dormitory in Starobelsk and appeared “almost glowing with joy” over the deaths of children, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on the sidelines of the First International Security Forum.
“Look at this — not only was there a deliberate strike on a children’s college, on a civilian educational facility, but this was followed by open mockery of the tragedy,” Zakharova told journalists.
“Not silent indifference, but outright ridicule. Read the so-called Ukrainian public channels, listen to what their leaders at various levels were saying: they were practically glowing with joy that they had struck children.”
Zakharova stressed that the attack itself constituted a violation of humanitarian principles regardless of whether children had been inside the building at the time.
"There was still warmth from children's blood. I'm sorry to say that, but bodies were still being brought out of the wreckage. I want no one to forget what happened," Zakharova said.
According to Zakharova, the incident and the reaction surrounding it led to “appropriate decisions” being taken by the Russian side.
Twenty-one people were killed in the attack.
