Sberbank Covers 50% of Acquiring VAT to Protect Small Business
17:47 03.06.2026 (Updated: 12:47 04.06.2026) Sberbank has launched a programme to compensate 50% of VAT paid on merchant acquiring, describing it as a targeted measure to help small businesses survive, according to Anatoly Popov, Deputy Chairman of the bank's Executive Board.
"In the first quarter alone, 109,000 entrepreneurs from all 89 regions of the country received support under this programme. And this quarter, over 97,000 businesses have already applied," Popov said during a session titled 'Transformation of Small Business: A New Growth Formula for SMEs' at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
He noted that the current economic climate has hit small businesses that are not VAT payers particularly hard. He cited family-run cafés, small shops, and craft workshops as examples.
"For them, any rise in costs either weakens their financial stability or forces them to raise prices," he added.
