Global gas consumption reached a new record of 4.3 trillion cubic meters in 2025, and will grow to 5.7 trillion cubic meters by 2050, Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller said on Friday.
"Global gas consumption reached a new historical maximum in 2025 — 4.3 trillion cubic meters of gas. By the middle of the century, this figure will grow by more than 30%, to 5.7 trillion cubic meters," Miller said during the annual meeting of shareholders.
Meanwhile, Gazprom expects further growth in gas supplies to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline in 2026, deputy chairman of the company's management committee, Famil Sadygov, said on Friday.
"Gas exports via the Power of Siberia pipeline reached a record high in 2025, increasing by 24.8%, and we expect further growth in supplies to China this year," Sadygov said during the company's annual shareholders' meeting.
Gazprom has the necessary resources to meet China's growing demand for gas, Miller added.
Additionally, Gazprom and China are discussing in detail new opportunities in the field of gas exports, the head said, noting that China confirmed its interest in this.
In 2025, Miller projected that by 2050, global gas demand will increase by nearly one third, with Asia-Pacific countries driving much of the growth due to their strong energy needs and economic expansion.
"In 2024, global gas consumption reached a record high of 4.17 trillion cubic meters, increasing by 100 billion cubic meters over the year. Until 2050, global gas demand will grow at a rate that exceeds the growth rate of energy consumption in general by 1.5 times. Thus, by 2050, global gas consumption will increase by almost a third," the head of Gazprom said.
Earlier, the International Energy Agency (IEA) estimated that global gas demand would grow by less than 1% in 2025, but in 2026 the growth rate is expected to accelerate to 2%, leading to a new record in gas consumption.
