Rosatom-Trained Personnel Gear Up for Reactor Startups in Bangladesh, Turkey
Nuclear experts trained by Russian state atomic energy corporation Rosatom are preparing to start up reactors at Bangladesh's Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and Turkey’s Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev said on Friday.
"Fully trained and licensed teams, approved by local regulators, are beginning startup operations today at sites in Bangladesh and Turkey," he told reporters at the Obninsk NEW-2026 International Youth Nuclear Forum.
Both plants are the first nuclear facilities to be commissioned in their respective countries. They were built with Rosatom's assistance.
The UN nuclear watchdog IAEA forecasts that the installed capacity of all nuclear power plants worldwide will grow to 1,200 GW from the current 440 GW by 2050, which will require large numbers of new nuclear specialists to be trained, Likhachev said.
"One can imagine the demand for personnel for this work," he said.
Rosatom is helping to train nuclear energy specialists for other countries, Likhachev added. He called this an example of Rosatom’s long-standing, systematic approach to training international personnel for the nuclear industry.
