The United States is considering relocating some of its military bases in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to reduce their vulnerability to potential Iranian attacks if hostilities in the Middle East resume, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials.
The US is weighing moving the bases or their functions farther west, the report said on Thursday. One option under consideration is Israel, where dozens of US aircraft, including fighter jets and refueling planes, have been already deployed during the military operation against Iran, the newspaper added.
The country is also reportedly considering upgrading its naval base in Bahrain, which has been targeted numerous times since the beginning of the conflict. According to the newspaper, those attacks caused significant damage, which the the Department of War has not publicly disclosed.
A source said that the US may relocate some command centers underground and distribute military infrastructure more evenly across the region, although no final decisions have been made.
