Ukraine has rejected Russia's proposed humanitarian action to hand over the bodies of Ukrainian soldiers killed in Konstantinovka, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"On July 4, 2026, the Russian Defense Ministry issued a statement proposing a humanitarian action to hand over the bodies of Ukrainian servicemen killed in Konstantinovka after Russian troops finally regain control of the town and the cessation of hostilities there. During discussions with its security services, the Ukrainian side rejected this proposal," the ministry stated.
Over 20 media outlets from different countries requested access to Konstantinovka, in the Donetsk People's Republic, to cover the handover of the bodies of Ukrainian soldiers following the city's liberation, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday.
"More than twenty media editorial boards from different countries and continents expressed their desire to move to the settlement in order to be present during the procedure of bodies handover," the statement read.
The Russian armed forces took the strategic DPR city under full control on Friday. On Saturday, the Russian military command proposed a localized 6-hour ceasefire on July 6 to facilitate the handover of the bodies of fallen Ukrainian soldiers to Ukraine. Should Kiev agree to the proposal, the ministry said it was ready to organise the work of journalists in the city.
